Prince Harry sued by an African NGO for damage to his reputation

L’ONG Sentebale, co-founded by Prince Harry in tribute to Diana, announced on Friday that it had initiated legal proceedings before the High Court ofEngland and Wales for damage to his reputation, against a backdrop of internal conflict which became public. The organization claims to have been weakened by a media campaign launched in March 2025.

“The association requests the intervention and protection of the court, and compensation for the damage suffered after a coordinated media campaign carried out since March 25, 2025 which disrupted its operations and damaged its reputation, that of its management and its strategic partners,” indicates a press release. The NGO specifies that “the procedure was initiated against Prince Harry and Mark Dyer, formally identified as being the architects of this defamatory media campaign which had a considerable impact and triggered a wave of cyberbullying ».

The governance of the NGO in question

Prince Harry and Mark Dyer dispute these accusations. Through their spokesperson, they “categorically reject these offensive and defamatory allegations” and denounce an initiative that they consider inappropriate: “it is absurd that charitable funds are used to initiate legal proceedings against the very people who built and supported the organization for almost twenty years”.

This dispute comes after several months of tensions around the governance of Sentebale. While the Charity Commission had noted “governance weaknesses”, it found no evidence of widespread or systemic harassment, while estimating that “the inability of administrators to resolve disputes internally had had serious repercussions on the reputation” of the organization, founded in 2006 to support young people living with HIV in Lesotho and Botswana.
